Microsoft Privileged Identity Management (PIM) is a powerful Azure AD service that provides time-based and approval-based role activation for access to resources in Azure, Azure AD and connected Microsoft services like Microsoft Intune and Microsoft 365. In company environments I always recommend to use PIM.
Once PIM is activated you will receive a “Weekly PIM digest” if you have Privileged Role Administrators, Security Administrators, or Global Administrators rights. It gives you a good overview about what happened in the environment in the last week.
So far so good, but… what if you have activated PIM with a trail license to test the solution, for example for a training, or to test a use case? You still will receive the “Your weekly PIM digest” emails. Even if the service is deactivated and no role assignments are active in the service.
Unfortunately, there is no option to disable the “Weekly PIM digest”. I have tried several options, for example in the Microsoft 365 admin center – Message center Email preferences.
On the end I disabled email notifications for every service (as a test), but still, every Sunday I receive the “Weekly PIM digest” again.
Maybe I overlooked the disable option, if you know how to disable this weekly digest, please let me know in the commends below!
For now I have created the following workaround to stop receiving the Weekly PIM digest in your mailbox.
Navigate to the Power Automate portal. Power Automate is free to use for personal Outlook accounts and Microsoft 365 users (for more advanced features you need a paid license).
Click Create
Click Automated cloud flow
Give the Flow a name, for example Weekly PIM digest. Search for the trigger When a new email arrives. Depending if you are using Outlook.com or Office 365 Outlook, choose version 2 or 3. For this blog I will choose for V3. Click Create.
In most cases a connection to your mail account will automatically be created, otherwise you need to sign in to make the connection.
Make sure the Inbox Folder is selected and click Show advanced options.
In Subject Filter, add weekly PIM digest and click New step
Search for the Delete email action.
In the Message Id select the Message Id as Dynamic content.
Click Save.
This will delete all incoming emails with the “Your weekly PIM digest” as subject.
